Mini Warehouses
- In 1974 Hot Springs Mini Storage opened its doors for business. This facility is the very first storage units ever built in Hot Springs Arkansas. Originally the 27 unit facility was called “Hot Springs Mini Warehouses”. They were, and still are, constructed with concrete cinder blocks and all units had running water and electricity. The mini warehouses were built in a U shape with one larger warehouse completing the arc. There ae three sizes: the smaller 5×15 had regular swing out doors with barn-style handles secured with padlocks. The medium 10×15 and largest 15×20 sizes had the old slider doors adorned with the same barn-style handles which were also secured with padlocks. A few years later the name officially changed to what it is now known as, “Hot Springs Mini Storage”. The facility received a makeover and was painted a bright bubblegum pink trimmed in black. At the time, the color choice served merely as a gimmick to stand out and draw attention and it worked. Even today, it is still an identifier and placeholder to help it stand out is easily recognized. Although these ‘warehouses’ have gone through many changes and upgrades, the integrity remains the same. GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR UNIT
In order to utilize the most space out of your storage unit you will want to have a plan. Choose a back corner of the unit and start there working your way along the back wall. Next you will want to line the sides of the unit allowing an aisle in case you need to acquire an item from the back later. You may also want to have shelving so you can utilize the entire wall space available.
A FEW PACKING HACKS
Lets face it, packing is a chore and can get expensive especially when you run out of boxes, tape, packing paper. But, never fear, there is a way to pack without having to purchase those things and save space at the same time. Pack items in drawers of a dresser, use towels and clothing to wrap fragile items. Don’t waste time taking clothes off hangers. Wrap a rubber band around a handful of hangers and slide a trash bag over the clothes and tie. Use backpacks, luggage and hampers as containers and mark them with the contents. Never mix two or more rooms when packing. Always pack one room at a time and clearly mark you containers and have the labels facing out for easy identification.
PROPER LIFTING TECHNIQUES
Lifting objects, whether light or heavy in weight can be a strain on your back. So there is a right way to transport your items from your vehicle to your unit.
- Deadlift Method – have your feet shoulder length apart, keep your back straight, bend at the knees and as you slowly rise, hold the load as close to your body as possible.
- Lunge with arm support – resting arm on the thigh directs the forces down. Rest your arm on your thigh, as you slowly rise use the weight of your thigh to help you up. Remember to always keep your back straight.
These are just a couple techniques that will surely save you from a world of back problems in the future.
